Profile

Jayne A. Pearman, Attorney at Law

I was born in San Diego, California while my father was in the navy completing his internship in OBGYN. I was raised until the age of 15 in Columbia, Missouri where my GRC41292-Pearman, Jayne rmfather practiced medicine.  Upon the divorce of my parents in 1975 I moved to Texas and graduated from St. Johns High School in Houston, Texas in 1977.  I then attended Southern Methodist University from 1977-1979.  In 1979 I returned to Columbia, Missouri and finished my undergraduate degree in Accounting at the University of Missouri-Columbia.  I then attended law school at MU-Columbia, graduating in 1984.  Upon graduation, (and after back-packing across Europe while I awaited news of passing the bar exam), I moved to Kansas City where I have made my home since.

Originally living mid-town, I have gradually migrated south and now live on a farm south of Kansas City where I raise and show American Saddlebred horses. I have lots of dogs and other farm animals to keep me busy. I have on occasion been known to ride my Harley Davidson, so best to clear the area if you see me. Travel involves horse shows and scuba diving whenever I can find the time and someone to care for all the critters at home.

Achievements

Jayne obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1981 where she received her BSBA in Accounting, Cum Laude. She then attended the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law where she was on the Dean’s List every semester; the Missouri Law Review; graduated in the top 10% of her class and received the highest honor of the Order of the Coif Distinction. She received American Jurisprudence Awards in Criminal Law and Professional Responsibility.

Jayne has been practicing law in the Kansas City metropolitan area since her graduation from law school in 1984, initially focusing her practice in personal injury and general civil litigation as a partner in large downtown law firms.  She ultimately chose to leave the large firm environment to practice family law exclusively in the mid 1990’s and is now a solo practitioner in Overland Park, Kansas. While with the big firms, she tried numerous jury trials around the state with great success.  Now practicing exclusively family law, she handles both uncontested and contested matters to trial, if necessary.  Her practice is almost equally male and female clients and the majority of her cases are settled without the necessity of a trial.
