Profile

Jayne A. Pearman – Mediation and Family Law

I was born in San Diego, California while my father was in the navy completing his internship in OBGYN. I was raised until the age of 15 in Columbia, Missouri where my father practiced medicine.  Upon the divorce of my parents in 1975, I moved to Texas and graduated from St. Johns High School in Houston, Texas in 1977.  I then attended Southern Methodist University from 1977-1979.  In 1979 I returned to Columbia, Missouri and finished my undergraduate degree in Accounting at the University of Missouri-Columbia.  I then attended law school at MU-Columbia, graduating in 1984.  Upon graduation, (and after back-packing across Europe while I awaited news of passing the bar exam), I moved to Kansas City where I lived until 2021 when I returned to the Columbia, Missouri area to live.

I have lived on a farm since 2020 where I have raised and shown American Saddlebred horses and ride trails for pleasure. I have always had many dogs, cats, chickens and peacocks to keep me busy. Travel involves horse shows and scuba diving whenever I can find the time and someone to care for all the critters at home.

Achievements

I obtained my undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1981 where I received my BSBA in Accounting, Cum Laude. I then attended the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law where I was on the Dean’s List every semester; the Missouri Law Review; graduated in the top 10% of my class and received the highest honor of the Order of the Coif Distinction. I received American Jurisprudence Awards in Criminal Law and Professional Responsibility.

I initially focused my practice in personal injury and general civil litigation in large downtown Kansas City law firms.  I ultimately chose to leave the large firm environment to practice family law exclusively in the mid 1990’s and I am now a solo practitioner practicing mainly in Johnson County, Kansas and Boone County, Missouri (thanks to the new virtual offices!). I have been practicing for almost 40 years and have begun to shift my focus to Mediation with great success. It is my goal to use my years of experience to help families divorce better. Mediation is the future in my opinion.
